Unit 1: Hurricanes & Tornadoes

Dear Parents/Guardians of our 4th grade class,
Our first science unit this year is on two extremly interesting and fun topics; hurricanes and tornadoes. This upcoming week, December 6-10, we will be covering four different lessons, two on hurricanes and two on tornadoes. On Monday and Tuesday, we will be learning all different things about hurricanes such as: what they are, how they are formed, where they generally occur, and also the history of some major hurricanes that have hit our area. On Wednesday and Thursday we will be covering Tornadoes and similar to our hurricane lesson, we will discuss how tornadoes form, what causes tornadoes to start and stop, and where tornadoes typically occur. Also included in both lesson topics are two fun science experiments for students to work on in pairs during class, one to go along with tornadoes and one to go along with hurricanes! Its going to be a fun filled week and if you get a chance, be sure to ask your child about what new ideas he/she has learned!
